Cllr. Cahal Burke

Councillor Cahal Burke creating Cleaner, Greener, Safer Communities:
Birchencliffe, Birkby, Lindley, Marsh, Mount, Oakes, Quarmby, Salendine Nook

The Council election this May will be so close.

What do you think people need from their local councillor? Is it someone who will be a strong voice in the Town Hall? Is it someone who will listen to local people and understand their concerns? Is it someone who loves living here and wants to make our area the best it can be?

To me, these are some of the most important things a local councillor can do. Your voice matters, and I want to make sure it won’t be ignored.

I listen to, and work with, local people to make a difference. For too long, the Conservatives have taken you for granted. They have become involved in sleaze scandals, the Tories partied while people died, let developers build on our precious green spaces, and ignored traffic problems which blight our neighbourhoods. An now the Tory cost of living crisis…

This year’s election will be so close between myself and the unknown Conservative candidate, so every vote will count.

Don’t let the Tories take you for granted. Let’s send them a message that they can’t ignore. Vote Cahal Burke – Lib Dem on May 5th.

KIRKLEES COVID-19 VACCINATIONS

Lindley ward councillors, Cllr Cahal Burke, Cllr Richard Eastwood and Cllr Anthony Smith supporting the covid-19 vaccine roll out in Kirklees by volunteering at Cathedral House.

Lindley Councillors, Cllr Burke, Cllr Eastwood & Cllr Smith have been volunteering at Cathedral House supporting the NHS with the Covid-19 vaccination process.

At the moment, GPs are offering vaccinations to people aged 80 and over and care home residents and will then move to other age groups in descending order.

Practices are busy contacting eligible patients to make appointments for their first vaccination as supplies are made available to them but it is likely take several weeks to cover everyone in these first groups.GPs, nurses, pharmacists and countless other staff, partners and volunteers are working around the clock to provide vaccinations. We know people are eager get protected and may be concerned if they are in one of the priority cohorts and have not been contacted yet.

However, we would like to reassure them that they will be contacted over the next few weeks.Services are extremely busy at the moment and we would ask people to help the NHS at this very difficult time by not contacting their local GP or other NHS services about getting a vaccination.

People will not be able to book an appointment until they have been invited to do so, so please be patient and we will contact you as soon as it is your turn.https://www.northkirkleesccg.nhs.uk#Lindley#covid_19

LINDLEY FOOD BANK

We are here to try and resolve as many issues, concerns and challenges as we can and help bring the community together to support each other.

We have had a fantastic response from local businesses and individuals to our appeal and we are looking to establish a permanent FoodBank in the Lindley ward to serve our communities in Birchencliffe, Birkby, Lindley, Marsh, Mount, Oakes, Quarmby & Salendine Nook.

If you are a local business you can assist by becoming a drop off point or donate food/toiletries. Residents can assist by donating food/toiletries and identifying families/individuals in need.

Please see the Lindley Community Group website for a list of items that are currently needed. www.lindleygroup.org.uk

Please contact us if you can help and support.

MAKE SCHOOLS SAFE TO PROTECT COMMUNITIES

I and colleagues just signed this petition from @NEUnion & @unisontheunion to keep families and schools safe.

We must #MakeSchoolsSafe to #ProtectCommunities We note that coronavirus cases were increasing rapidly amongst school pupils and college students towards the end of last term. They had the highest rates of infection of all the age bands. We also note the increased evidence of infection passing from students to parents and to staff during December.

Not to move to online learning for a period is risking the health of families and risks further chaos for schools and communities as children and staff are sent home to isolate in an unplanned way.

Such a chaotic situation impacts on the most disadvantaged the hardest. We need to put safety and education back on track.

We call on the Government to use this period of online learning to: establish the rate of transmission of the new variant of the virus amongst school pupils and college students and from them to others at home – it is important to keep families safe, establish measures to keep schools and colleges more Covid-secure such as the introduction of proper mass testing with adequate time and resource to ensure the effective roll-out of testing; the vaccination of staff, starting with those at highest risk; and the establishment of rotas for attendance at school or college, wherever possible, to allow vital social distancing in crowded classrooms and buildings.

2022 LINDLEY CALENDAR

Lindley Community Group will be producing a 2022 Lindley Calendar with proceeds going to our newly formed food bank. Local businesses can sponsor a page/month for just £30. We are looking for support to produce the calendar and hope that at least 12 businesses would sponsor a page/month in the calendar.

The cost would be £30 per page/month, and we can include the business logo on the page/month and with all sponsors on the front of the calendar. If we have more than 12 businesses wishing to support we can put two on each page/month if acceptable.

Businesses that wish to support can send their business logo to info@lindleygroup.org.uk and transfer the £30 to the LCG A/C with ref LCG Calendar.
