NEW LINDLEY MOOR PLANNING APPLICATION

Lindley Moor

There is a new application to build on Lindley Moor which I strongly object to. The application is for the demolition of existing buildings and erection of 2 industrial units and 253 dwellings, formation of new access from Lindley Moor Road and new accesses from Crosland Road and engineering works to create underground drainage attenuation.

Application number: 2014/62/93136/W

One week ago I completed the New York City Marathon – the biggest marathon in the world. After three operations on my knee following an ACL injury 10 years ago, I was delighted to finish on target in under 4 hours (3:54:33). Thank you to everyone who supported me and my charity Yorkshire Cancer Research.

TIME TO STOP THE OVER-DEVELOPMENT OF OUR AREA

Cllr Cahal Burke campaigning against the over-development of our area

Cllr Cahal Burke campaigning against the over-development of our area

Over 1,000 new houses have been built in Lindley over the last few years. There are plans for more housing developemts and industrial sites. (Lindley Moor, Grimescar Valley & every green field in the area!)

•Schools are full
•Roads are congested
•Doctors and Dentists full
•Green space is at a premium

We need a new school and we need to stop the over development of our area as the infrastructure can not cope with the strain of all the new developments.

Sign the Petition to show we have had enough.

RESIDENTS’ PETITION SUCCEEDS IN GETTING COUNCIL TO ADD THEIR ROAD TO PRIORITY GRITTING ROUTES

Cllr Cahal Burke campaigning for local residents

The signatures of over 300 residents and parents living in Mount have succeeded in getting Kirklees Council to add Moorlands Road to its priority gritting route.

Inclusion on the route means that Moorlands Road will now be among the first local authority roads that are visited by council’s gritters during spells of wintry weathers.

The petition was organised by Cllr Cahal Burke in response to complaints from local residents and was submitted to Kirklees Council in February this year.

Cllr Burke has just received confirmation from Officers that Moorlands will be gritted as a priority this winter.

Moorlands Road is home to Moorlands Primary School.

Cllr Burke (Lib Dem, Lindley) said:
“Local parents, residents and the school made it very clear that Moorlands Road needed to be gritted as a priority. It’s a busy stretch of road, linking two busy main roads, with houses and a school and as you can imagine there’s lots of activity especially early and late in the day. In the past we have had issues with parents not being able to bring their kids in safely and residents not being able to get out to work and to the shops because of cars stranded in the road. I am very pleased the council has listened and agreed to meet the needs of our community here in Mount.”

THE FUTURE OF LINDLEY LIBRARY

Cllr Cahal Burke -Campaigning to save Library Meeting

Cllr Cahal Burke -Campaigning to save Library Meeting

I was delighted with the turnout for the Lindley Library meeting, 137 attended on the night. I organised the meeting to give residents all the information they need about the proposals for the future.

The consultation will be the next way we can all get involved and have our say, I will also be arranging further meetings in the future.
To secure the future of the Library we will need support from the community to volunteer and form a ‘Friends Of Lindley Library’ group.

Out of the 137 in attendance 43 offered to be more involved and volunteer in the future.

If you haven’t signed the petition please do so now and share.

LOCAL ELECTIONS – 22nd MAY 2014

22nd May - Vote Burke

22nd May – Vote Burke

The Kirklees local elections will take place on Thursday 22nd May 2014. I am standing again and I am looking for your vote so that I can continue working hard for our area.

I am fighting to keep Accident and Emergency services at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. I know many of you have signed our petition to keep A&E and I thank you for that support.

Many of you have told me that you are particularly saddened that the Lindley Conservatives cut funding for our community events, like the Lindley carnival, Lindley 10k and Lindley Fun Run. They also voted against a much needed new school for our area which I have been campaigning for.

Locally the Conservative Councillors have recently given the go ahead for building on Lindley Moor.

They did this by abstaining in a crucial vote, as a result more green fields will be lost and more HGV lorries will be on local roads. I campaigned with local groups and residents against this proposal as I have done for all proposals to build on our green fields – our area simply cannot cope with such over development.

Many Labour voters have told me that they are switching to me this time to help Keep A&E at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. They realise Labour can’t win here, and that by voting Labour they get a Conservative instead.

Please get in touch if you can help with the re-election campaign.
