Heatherleigh playing fields is bounded by The Oaks and Lindley Moor Road and has been a football field for many years, but has had nothing specifically designed for children. It is easily reached from Laund Road, Rafborn Avenue and Haigh House Hill as well as The Oaks.
Lindley is well provided with playgrounds and has fourteen, for children under eleven – Heatherleigh is just the latest addition. It was finished when the snow and ice were at its worst but has come into its own with the warmer weather.
Cllr Christine Stanfield said :
“As a former Play Champion for Kirklees and former Chair of the Play Forum, I am particularly pleased that at last this play area is now installed. As soon as families moved into The Oaks, there were requests for a play area and we had discussions with Culture and Leisure Service as it was then, but there were several obstacles to be overcome. It has taken a long time, but I am delighted that at last there is a play area for children who live in this part of Lindley”.
Cllr Cahal Burke said :
“It was really good to go up and see children and parents happily playing in the sun together – I am really proud that Lindley has so many really well equipped play areas”.
