A successful over 60’s club from the Lindley area is being helped with the cost of taking its members on day trips by Huddersfield Area Committee.

Established five years ago by former councillor Chistine Stanfield – who continues to help run the group – Lindley Chimes provides a weekly opportunity for older people from the local area and beyond to meet up and socialise. In addition to the Chimes weekly gathering on
a Tuesday from 11am at Lindley Liberal Club where the 50+ members enjoy games, activities and refreshments, they also enjoy regular trips and days out around the region.

The funding of £1200 which will pay for the groups transport costs for the year was organised by Cllr Cahal Burke who is the current Lindley Councillor.

Cllr Cahal Burke said:

“Chimes is a real asset for the older people living in the Lindley area. It gives people the chance to get out regularly, meet up and enjoy themselves which really enriches their lives. Social isolation is something we hear a lot about and it really is terrible. Communities needs volunteer groups like Chimes so people have options open to them. I personally think the council should support as many of these groups as possible and hope that the number of people joining Chimes continues to grow in the future.”

Cllr Burke also gave special thanks to Lindley Liberal Club for the excellent job the venue does hosting and facilitating Chimes each week.
